I'm far beyond caring about a fair system, every tax system will be seen by someone as being unfair. All I ask for is an understandable system. A few years ago I found myself in the unenviable situation of having to take a capital loss on an investment, so it should have been a tax deduction, (under the US tax system not a good one), but a deduction none the less. Through some really arcane accounting procedures and obscure tax code complications I ended up owing taxes on my loss. That is maddening, it's as if the US tax code was written by sadists.

You have to start by trusting that you can build a fair system, and then go do
it.

If American tax law were imposed upon Americans by a foreign power it
would be considered an act of war. The fact that US tax law is
accepted
even by it's citizens is a wonder in and of itself. Without automated
help most US tax professionals couldn't fill out a simple tax return.
This in a country who's founding was based in part on a tax rebellion.

How can it be right that a person non-resident in the USA since he

net.
Typical media beat-up.

Turns out he's a U.S. citizen who doesn't pay his taxes.
