Thanks for the responses. If they are only trolling for free images, I will probably not hear back from them. If they are willing to pay (something) I will probably get back a lowball offer (like a copy of the issue and free Gift Subscription). I think it is a strong enough of an image (with solid evidence of its appeal through all of the favorites and comments on Flickr). I just don't feel that a magazine with the highest paying circulation in the world should get its content for free (as much as my ego says that it would be cool to just see it published).
My son-in-law does a lot of stock (mostly through Getty and Alamy) and I'm sure he will have some words of wisdom. In the mean time, I've decided to "punt" with the following response: - - - Hello Emma, Thank you for your interest in my Custer County Supercell image for Reader's Digest. As you probably noticed by the number of times it has been marked as a "favorite" and been commented on, it is an image that certainly seems to resonate with viewers. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixelsmithy/8850051008/ I would be happy license the image to you, and provide you with a hi-res image. In order to provide you with an appropriate licensing fee, I would need to know the particular rights that Reader's Digest is interested in purchasing (Single Use, print only, etc.). Please let me know your intended usage and I will be happy to provide you with a (reasonable) quote. =- - - On Mon, Oct 28, 2013 at 12:50 PM, Paul Stenquist <[email protected]> wrote: > The New York Times usually pays $150 for a single photo.
