In case anyone wants to start planning ahead, the Great American Solar
Eclipse is due 21 Aug 2017. The path of totality will begin somewhere in
the Pacific Ocean west of Portland Oregon and sweep across the U.S.
ending somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, south-east of Charleston, SC.

Dave, Your photos of the eclipse reminded me of one I saw as a child
of 8 or 10. The crescent shaped highlights of light thru the trees
was the same here. Regards, Bob S.

Nice work Dave, it was very overcast in Sydney so we missed the
event basically. PS those binoculars have some pretty severe
lateral CA ;)
They're doing alright considering they were given to me for Xmas
when I was 9. Plus the paper was flat against the ground so it
wasn't even in the right plane...
I'm wondering if Alastair or Tanya got anything. I wasn't really
taking the photos seriously but was enjoying the general spectacle
instead.
Some of the photos featured on the news sites were of a huge
blown-out area around the sun, with a pretty bit of eclipse-shaped
flare. Interesting effect but it might be hard to do well with a
Pentax lens.
Cheers, Dave
