I don't know if prices will fall more sharply in the near future, but I'd guess that the new crop of 4000 dpi scanners that have come out recently have had their impact on the prices of the 2400 dpi models. The Scan Elite I bought for $1,200 two and a half years ago now sells for $650 - I think it was a couple hundred higher than that last summer.
