Thanks to everyone for your comments and support. I'm quite lucky, as this could have been so much worse: four weeks in a splint (photos later this weekend!) beats surgery and pins or screws as metacarpal fractures often require. Due to our health care system, I've had two appointments (only three hours in and out of Emergency - not a bad wait, eh?) with several more to come (weekly with a physiotherapist, next month with the bone surgeon again), none of which comes out of my pocket. And, I've learned several lessons (smile when I'm cut off?). ;-) Anyway, thanks again.
