They are RAW files in that they are a dump of the information read via
the scanner sensor, it just happens that the images contain
RGB(IR)/pixel not a Bayer mosaic, and from recollection the Bayer file
encapsulated in camera generated RAW files is generally also TIFF.

Back to the original question, I haven't used the configuration
mentioned but I did experiement with shooting film using my own high
performance macro lenses on the K20D and other bodies and none
produced results anywhere near as consistant and high quality as my
Minolta Elite 5400 II.
