Having thought more about this, I really think the best course of action would be to get an MZ-S body. The reason? Well, the smaller the amount of money, the more likely you'll be able to come up with it in the future. The larger the amount of money, the less likely you'll be able to see it in one pile again. Since you've GOT a grand, spend most of it on one thing. The MZ-S is new, now, and nice--something you can sink your $1000 into that will really be a pleasure to own.
