I did the same for my step-son's partner, recommended a K-x for their first
trip to Japan together.  I lent them my DA50-200 to supplement the 18-55 kit
lens, and she says she loved using it.  Haven't seen the photos yet,
unfortunately.

Has anyone yet regretted recommending or buying a K-x?

My niece Olivia, who I snapped blowing out her birthday candles above, 
asked my opinion on what dSLR she should save up for. She's going to be 
taking a photography course at high school in the fall semester, and 
decided her P&S wouldn't do.

Completely unbiased, I of course suggested the K-x. :)  Here's hoping 
that she sees the wisdom of that choice when she's finally got her money 
from her summer job in a couple of months' time.
