I think the magazines are left there by patrons when they're done.
The magazine on the left is Dandyhorse, a Toronto bike mag. I have a
photo published in that very issue - a couple of weeks ago I was
sitting next to a couple looking at it, watching them reading the
article with my photo on the page. Very weird feeling (I didn't say
anything like, "hey, that's my photo!" - maybe I should have?).
I wasn't going to post it because it's blurry even by my standards (or
to put it another way, there's not enough interest to overcome the
blur and make it interesting) but here's a shot of Manic's main

Perhaps not as shi-shi as the magazine rack?
"knarfinthecity" doesn't seem to be cooperating right now for me, so
I'll have to look at the second one later.
But after going back to look at the first one several times I finally
figured out what was bothering me about it. Whoever installed their fire
alarm did a really sloppy job installing that pull station ... looks
about 5 - 10 deg out of plumb.
