SDM is a mixed bag. It's not necessarily faster than good screwdriver
AF (try a Sony A700 or Minolta Maxxum 7 or 9 sometime if you want to
see what screwdriver AF can do with a powerful AF motor). It is
quieter. And with Pentax's traditionally underpowered AF motors, it's
faster on the DA* zooms than their FA* equivalents.
