Hi Brian: Finally got the name of the fire photog: Nick Moir: he shoots
for the Sydney Morning Herald. Sorry it took so long to get his name. I
had to find the DVD--& it took me a while. Cheers, Christine

That's a very dramatic image, Brian--and to my eye it looks pretty good
for
a scanned image. Focus Magic seemed to do a pretty good job with the
foreground buildings. Just FYI, it comes up a little dark on my monitor,
but still very dramatic frame. You know, I saw a piece on an Australian
Photojournalist who specializes in Australian fires. I'll try to get his
name for you--he seemed pretty young. He shoots film for fire
shots--though
he does do some digital work as well; back in the newspaper lab, he runs
the
film through a machine that develops the film & converts the frames to
digital--all in about 12 minutes--than does digital post-processing.
I'll
try to find his name tomorrow; I have to run through a DVD to find it.
Very
compelling shot, Brian. Cheers, Christine
Thanks. It was a pretty nervous time for many people. Nowhere near as
bad as this weekend's fires in Victoria, though. Currently 66 dead and
700 homes lost - and it's not over yet. I hope no PDMLers are involved.
I'll certainly be interested to find out more about that photojourno.
The image is dark - I was trying to hide the out of focus foreground as
much as possible :-)>
I also made a mistake about the technical details. I did shoot a
similar image on Ektar with the SFXn but I now find that this one was
actually on Fujichrome 100 with the Super A. I scanned the slide on my
old Epson 1650 Perfection scanner. I'll have to get a decent scan done
commercially.
Cheers
Brian
