The complexity of the interface was not caused by digital photography. The Leica M8's interface is no more complex than its film predecessor's. The complexity of modern camera interfaces was caused by people being taking in by the marketing people's claims that more=better as far as 'features' are concerned, and the designers' failure to take responsibility for their product, and simply loading it with everything they ever saw in everybody's wish list. In the end only 2 things really matter: where you point the lens, and when you press the shutter. Beyond that you need to be able to control the size of the hole, how long you keep it open, what's in focus, and how sensitive the film/sensor is. That's 5 controls. Everything else is froth.
