The seller's a prime cut of idiot, as well as dishonest.
I suspect he knew full well the condition & was looking for a score.

It was advertised as in excellent condition, 95% of new condition, it did show a few superficial scratches in the paint on the hood.

How's that new FA 2.8 28-70mm working out?

:o)

actually, it was a very strange fault on the lens. I don't know for sure if it was a crack, a scratch (on an internal element?), or something else, but
it proves the value of taking a flashlight when you inspect a lens. I
probably wouldn't have noticed it by the ambient light alone, but whatever
it was it stretched across most of the diameter of the element.

The seller's a prime cut of idiot, as well as dishonest. That lens was
over £1400 new the last time it was on sale here. Assuming it's worth
nothing now and maybe £700 in as advertised condition, there is a lot of
discretion to get it fixed and at least get something for it.
