Photographing him might have made him uncomfortable because he was a
professional.
More often than not, that the impression I get when I see a similar sight.

Unfortunately, this looks like too many street corners I pass daily. Good
thing cardboard is free.
If your photographing him made him uncomfortable, there may yet be hope
that a bit of residue pride is still flickering.

Another one, shot same day. I hadn't seen the other guy
before (upon
reflection, decided I hadn't) and that was an
intersection in downtown WC that has
had beggars only recently.
This is a spot near a big local shopping center, that has
had beggars
longer, off and on over the years. Still, on the whole,
beggars in this well-to-do
area are a fairly recent development (in terms of
numbers). This spot is now
OFTEN occupied.
Not as good as the last one, and this guy is much
scruffier, and he
evidentially may have problems.
Still, I found his expression interesting.

I've cropped. Could crop differently. Not sure
it's worth it playing with it
much.
Comments welcome.
Marnie aka Doe (Part of his expression may be because I
was taking his
picture and he didn't like it either. So I shot some
other things too as not to
make him feel too paranoid. Also part of series.) :-)
