Slik carbon fiber tripods are a bargain. They're light and sturdy and quick to set up. No, they're not quite as well made as a gitzo or a manfrotto CF, but they're much less expensive. I've had good luck with manfrotto ball heads, which are also a bargain compared to the better made Kirks, but I prefer a three-way head for most applications.
