This shot looks like much of the area in and around the Sutter Buttes. Lava rock walls every place. Erected by Chinese laborers..they say. This shot is nicely backed up by the tree line. I've done the north to south up-and-over Lassen drive and understand exactly what you faced at the top. It is a series of white knuckle drop off curves without guard rails. Kinda' hairy.
