Dave - a couple of us are using Zenfolio. Several things I like about it: -no ads -good selection of templates to use -lots of flexibility to set up your own display design -unlimited space -on-the-fly rendering of photos to the max size possible given the size of the viewer's browser -you can point your own domain name to it -viewers can order prints. You can point them to the two default print sources, or you can set it up with your own preference. -you can set your own price lists and make a profit on prints. You can have it so that any print orders come to you rahter than a commercial place, you fulfill them directly, and the zenfolio serves as your e-Commerce front end. -you can selectively password folders or sections. (E..g., for an event photographer, you could tell your customers to go to xyz.com/ thisEvent, give them the password. They can view (and purchase) but other clients won't be able to see those shots.)
Some of the above are not available unless you go from the Basic membership ($25/yr) to the second level ($40/yr) or third level ($100/ yr). Free thirty day trial. I won't make any claims that it is the "best" solution, but one well worth considering.
