I have the original Ultron 40/2 SL in M42 mount - got it for use on a Bessaflex TL body. It's a very well-made lens, all metal in black and silver (not all-black like the new Version II), and it has very smooth focusing. On film it's a bit soft and vignettes very slightly wide open but it's very good at the middle apertures. While I don't know that the new version is the same as the old one, the specs look the same. As it can't be stopped down manually when used with my M42- K adapter ring on digital I don't know how it performs on APS-C format. Maybe I'll try some shots wide open to see how it does. I agree that the 58/1.4 sounds more interesting on digital. It'll be interesting to see how it performs.
