1. Insert one of many obvious jokes here.  Being myself of French
Canadian descent takes away many of these.

2. The obvious goal is to be so experienced that you "automatically"
think about exposure issues or level horizons so that you can let your
"artistic" side take over.   The problem for me is that my photography
is more episodic so I get rusty.
