My experience with Epson printers (4 of them) is that the expensive
ones are marvelous.  The cheap ones are crap.  I threw out two cheap
ones behaving pretty much like yours (only I got about 1 year out of
them first).  So I concur to throw it out and then decide what to
replace it with.  If you are not willing to spend at least $400 for a
new one, get an HP or Canon instead.
