The latest version of PhotoShop Elements has a good RAW converter, which is
a slightly watered down version of the ACR that comes with PhotoShop. Adobe
Lightroom is a dedicated digital photography workshop. I haven't used it yet,
but those who have seem to like it very much. Godders is quite high on it I
believe.

Lightroom, now that I have used it, seems especially good for doing B&W
conversions and organizing one's photos. It can also reset tonal values for
B&W
and color. But serious editing, involving cloning and other things, needs to
be done elsewhere. I thought it would only "plug-in" CS2 and CS3, so I was
very happy to find it would hook up to plain old vanilla, CS. One can also
hook
it up to any external editing program, so I now have it hooked up to Elements
5, as well.

I think what I like best is the film strip at the bottom, though. It just
makes a good RAW previewer. Best I have seen so far.

Marnie aka Doe ;-) But truthfully, one CAN live without it, although I do
like what it does with B&W conversions.
