I find electronics stuff dies all the time. I've had A Sharp camcorder and DVD player both work fine for years and then all of sudden fail one day, with no warning.
In the case of AC appliances, if I was looking for an external cause I'd guess it was power surges. In the case of other items, I guess nothing lasts forever.
