I'm a strictly infrared guy, myself. I almost always shoot manual focus 
and usually manual exposure when I'm using a tripod. The IR remote is 
less fussier to me than a cable release.

BTW: For both my ist-D and my K10D I got MZ-S camera straps, which have 
the little pockets for the IR remote.
