The big box stores require adequate stock be available before they buy. You run into a bit of a problem when the manufacturer makes 5000 a month and you have 10,000 stores to put them in. The local Wal-Mart did have some istD-L's for a bit about a year back however. And they quite often had Pentax P&S's.
