Yes, but for totally different reasons. Contax was just a pimple on Kyocera's ass, and killing it was no big deal to their corporate profit picture. It was a very questionable business decision, since they had produced the finest medium format camera system and some innovative point and shoot digital cameras, but killing Contax and Yashica had little impact on Kyocera's bottom line. Contax never lacked for prestige. Pentax is in a totally different position, since they are not just a tiny division of a corporate giant. For them, shutting down would be the end.
