Reports to the market indicate otherwise:

"Pentax will continue to overhaul less profitable businesses. It will
abandon the development of medium-format single-lens reflex cameras
designed for professional photographers and specialize in digital SLR
offerings for new and intermediate users.........

the firm plans to focus on its three growth areas: endoscopes and
other medical instruments, digital SLR cameras and optical items. At
the same time, it intends to pursue strategies designed to exploit
core optical and precision technologies.
 (The Nikkei Thursday morning edition)"

The P&S market is crowded and does not guarantee the future profit
that Pentax requires in order to survive.
