John, I believe the problem is that the printer thinks the ink
absorption 
pads are full and it refuses to print more before they are replaced
(trying
to prevent overflow). These are quite easy to replace. I think you may
even 
find the printer service manual pdf floating around the net someplace,
where
you can find the instructions on how to reset the counter and make the 
printer know the pads have been replaced.
