Jim,

I think that you will like the lens a lot, I've had mine for three years or
so. The lighter weight than the f4 version is a plus to me, as I
occasionally hike a ways with it in a backpack to get where I want to use
it. I carry it in a large photo backpack. The poor positioning of the
tripod mount is a problem, but not seriously so. I find it quite sharp,
though it's not a good lens for moving subjects, due largely to the mount
position, at least I don't think so. Mr. Robb has some experience with it's
use on a gimbaled head. Here's a shot taken at Kensington Metropark (I'm in
Livonia, BTW) with this lens, the 1.4x teleconverter with an ist D.

Congratulations, I know you'll like it, and for what it's worth, it sounds
to me like you got a good price if the pictures do it justice.

After several years of searching I finally found and won an eBay auction
(150111393342) for a Pentax A*600/5.6 lens in pristine condition. I wanted
it for my lens collection which now includes all of the A-series glass
except the A*1200/8, which I've never seen for sale. It should be great for
long shots over Lake Erie from the front porch of our summer cottage. It
will be interesting to see how the SR of the K10D works with it - at a
little over 3 Kg it might be marginally hand-holdable. I suspect that it
will spend more time on my HD tripod, however.

This one was really hard to find - the only other time I saw one up for
auction on eBay, I accidentally slept through the close of the auction and
never got my bid in! This one cost a bit more than the earlier one but
seems to be in better condition (fingers crossed).

There is also an FA*600/4 up on eBay currently. but the price just makes my
head spin!

Regards, Jim
