It looks like this lens won't work ( mamiya 55mm F1.8) because the hole that would need to be drilled in the lens's flange would be interfering with the lens's aperture setting ring movement. drats! Seems like you said, this can only be done on M42 lenses that have large diameter flanges at the mount.... jco

Something like the SMCT 135 f2.5 with it's large base would be possible. Remove the spring from the adapter that locks it into the camera body. I don't have an adapter available but I think the tapped hole for the screw that holds that spring goes entirely through the adapter, if so you can simply get a screw with the same thread that's slightly longer to hold the adapter in place. Next mount the lens on the camera and mark where the lens lock falls on the lens body. Drill a small hole to match that location. If the lens has an A/M switch you're all set.
