I think you're right that they do look muddy but I think your treatment goes a little too far in the opposite direction.
Looking at 4084944, getting a golden glow on the reeds is on the right track but seems overdone here. I think you also need to try to retain darkness in the background foliage (maybe use a layer mask to partially protect the background foliage from the adjustments carried out on the reeds). The images are well worth a bit of work.
