It has been said here quite a few times that the 50/1.7 is a better macro lens, but I don't think there was a 1.7 past the M or A series.
----- The 50 F1.7 started out as an M42 lens. I had it with my old H2 (H3?). Then it was produced in K mount through, I believe, 1977. Anyway, it is reputed to have a flatter field at close focusing and to be better for copy work than the contemporaneous 50/1.4.
