Judging from the photograph (have the box been opened for the photograph?)
there's a Asahi logo on the prism housing. This means it's Japanese, right?
Of course it's a collectors item. Anything out of production is. As long as
it is fully working an well maintained.
If it's NIB - that's makes it even better.
Even though it's a low end camera, it represents a great success for
Pentax - it remained in production for decades.
It's a sort of a standard (basic) camera, durable and reliable for students,
pro's and enthusiasts.
I have often regretted that I sold mine.

These days I use a P50 for no Brain/ no Batteries/ no BS work.
It works fine, but it's annoying that the film speed is not user adjustable
:-/

Anyway 400 USD is a lot - probably more than Pentax wanted for this camera.
But perhaps it will complete a collection of MF Manual Exposure control
Pentaxes ?
In Copenhagen ther's an LX up for auction - it's probably sell for 125 USD!

If the camera in that auction came with that A50/2 it leads me to
believe it's a later K1000. (Besides, what are the odds that an early
K1000 has survived this long without being opened?) Probably not made
in Japan, probably has quite a bit of plastic on it, and probably not
worth anywhere near $410.
