Why is it more appealing that the K10D?

Size?, high ISO?
or is one of that obscure Flash functions that you seem to like? ;-)

While I too am chuffed that Pentax seems to have got it right, I would 
not underestimate the value of the *ist digital cameras in this 
transition. If I am honest, the Ds still is the most appealing of the 
lot for me.
