I already stated that this assumes all other variables are constant, i.e. the same quality lenses. Furthermore, the whole thread blew up on the simple concept that wide angles are harder to focus than telephotos at the same speed , no one was arguing that lower quality lenses arent harder to focus than high quality lenses which they are of course assuming all other factors are the same. jco

If it were all so predictable you would argue that the A50/1.2 would be notably easier to focus wide open than the A50/2.8 Macro, yes? Well if you try it you'll see quite plainly that the macro is the easiest lens with which to judge focus through the finder.
