I usually replace the rear cap, but leave the front cap off.  The front
lens element is protected by virtue of having the hood on the lens and
putting the lends into the case "nose down".  If I wasn't in a really
dusty environment, I'd leave the rear caps off sometimes ... maybe ... I
can just see me dripping ice cream into the rear of the lens and its
mount and not noticing it for an hour or two.  I already did that with
the MZ-S and BG-10 and had to send them in for repair.  I guess
chocolate covered vanilla ice cream must be conductive. :-D
