I'm late to reply but hey I've just woken up. I work pretty much the
same as you in the field, I don't generally replace front caps, in
fact I remove them and fit the hoods before I go out. All I have to do
when changing lenses is swap rear caps and when I get home if they've
accumulated any dust I just give them a quick blast with the
compressed air.
