I haven't found a way yet Ann, but I did send them an email complaining about it, and also about the fact that it changes my settings in the Delete folder from "Hide read messages" to "Show all messages"!
I have speakers in my screen, which are surprisingly good, but I leave an earphone set plugged in to suppress noise...
