Mine was EQUAL all the rest of the 8 I had in
Terms of contrast. The problem was pure speed
And the fact that its wide so more DOF made it even
Harder to focus, but, in sunlight it was easy.

I owned one during my 67 days.  My biggest issue with it was that it
wasn't very contrasty in the viewfinder - I had more trouble
accurately focusing it than any other lens I had (55/4, 75/4.5,
90/2.8, 90/2.8 leaf, 165/2.8, 165/4 leaf, 300/4).
