I think the 22 bit allows more image preprocession before
Saving, but If the save is raw in 12 bit format, I don't
Understand what is going on there.

In the middle and right charts:

a) the same analog signal is represented as the black line

Thanks, Doug. So the dynamic range is the same for 12 vs. 22 bit 
conversion, but the 22 bit conversion allows more subtle shading.

I have never been discontented with the shading rendered by my D. Is the

22 bit converter much ado about nothing?
