Whoa! I went away and came back, and a thread addressed to me personally has
been
hijacked. :-)

I was with CompuServe near the beginning of my Internet usage, and they often
made it hard for people to quit the service. I bounced back and forth between
it and AOL, and I had an easier time quitting AOL. No billing for time not
spent online. OTOH, I paid CompuServe more than I really should have.

I don't like AOL's mail reader, their usenet reader is now defunct, and I
have to go through google groups, BUT... there is always a line free, I can
always get online, and the offer direct debit from my bank account which the
smaller services didn't (CompuServe offered that too). They have now trimmed
back
services a great deal, and if you have Broad Band you can get AOL free. And
Broad Band can be provided by another ISP.

So, yeah, AOL truly hoovers sometimes, OTOH, it also isn't as bad as some
think.

Just my .02.

Marnie And I prefer when I, a user knocks it, than when a non-user knocks
it. ;-)
