I see the point you're all making but don't you find that fiddling
with the bracket every time you change orientation a bit tiresome ?

The idea is to use the flash in contrast control mode with the rtf or
a nother flash unit on the camera's hot shoe with the one on the
bracket angled up for a bounce effect.

I've used the arrangement quite successfully by homebrewing a simple
rig to mount the main flash to the side of the camera but my homebrew
rig is a bit rickey and not practical enough hence the flash bracket
reccomendation request.

OTOH i do see the relevance of the various points raised and will
consider the options.
