Joe,

For me it depends on the subject.  My first glance was one of pattern
and color, not objects.  As such, the breaking into thirds makes
sense.  You almost need to defocus a bit to see it that way.

If the subject is the tree/house, then the composition suffers, as you
say.  Hard to say what the intent was.
