While I don't shoot a Pentax DSLR now, my D50's performance in JPEG mode 
is essentially indistinguishable from a DS2's (Based on the test thread 
from a while back). I'd agree with Aaron here, the newer cameras are a 
lot faster than the D in JPEG mode, both for buffer size and write 
speeds (The buffer size is closer in RAW, but the write speeds of RAW's 
is so much better than the D that its night and day if you hit the end 
of the buffer on a regular basis).
