I was browsing through the newspaper (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) this morning and noticed one of those "ask a question about consumer electronics and gadgets" columns (yes, cameras fall under that heading now in public perception - sad, ain't it?) It's a nationally syndicated column called "Sound Advice" by someone named Don Lindich.
Anyway, the questioner asked for advice on which digital SLR to buy, Nikon D50 or Canon Rebel XT. The answer given was basically, "None of the above. Buy a Pentax K100D!" He commented that he'd been using the ist-DS with Pentax 18-55 lens for a year and loved it and that the K100D would be even better (with a big plug for the image stabilization). Also said he thought Pentax's 18-55 was the best of the current "kit lenses" (though I suppose a photo geek like myself might find that a dubious distinction <g>) and that the 50-200 was top rated by Pop Photo. He said he thought that the K100D and 18-55 looked to be *the* hot kit for 2006. Hope Pentax quotes lots of bits from this article in the "reviews" section of their web site. All in all a tremendous plug for Pentax and doubly pleasing because he was steering someone toward Pentax when they hadn't been considering it in the first place. I have a feeling Pentax is going to have to work hard to keep up with demand for their new cameras. The Post-Gazette usually makes articles available on line a day or so after print publication. I'll post a link if/when this happens. -- Mark Roberts Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com 412-687-2835 -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
