Browsing through some photo books yesterday I came across this one by
Bill Jay, one of the co-authors of the great "On being a photographer"

http://www.photoeye.com/templates/mShowDetailsbycat.cfm?Catalog=TR182

It is a set of photos of men who look like him, according to his
daughter. Mostly they seem to be down-and-outs from Southern
California, but between each gnarled black & white portrait is a
colour non-portrait of the area and notes and talks with the men as
individuals. It is a very effective book and well worth a look if you
get the chance.
