Okay, I got curious. I found it. Turning off Windows Updates is a tad more hidden.
Right click on the My Computer icon. Select Properties from the mouse menu. There is a tab for Automatic Updates. You can radio button check Turn Off Automatic Updates. Bingo. But keep the other info too, it will probably come in handy some time. I know once I had a McAffee security thing for free on my computer, than it expired. But I kept getting warnings to go to their web site and download (and pay for) for a new copy. Drove me nuts. I didn't want to buy it. There are free virus checkers. I turned it off in Startup.
