I would say Pentax believes theres joy in repetition. The K-mount was
ever as close to an Open Source equivalent as the camera industry ever
ventured after the M42.
The days of the introduction of the K-mount was a golden age for
Pentax. I would not be at all surprised if they tried to regain some
former glory by promoting the mount once again, even to dull,
mainstream consumer electronics, Korean companies.

Subject: Re: Pentax to Boost (lens) Production Capacity
It's obvious that Pentax will be getting out of the camera business
and
concentrating on optics. This will not be the demise of Pentax, but
the
demise of Pentax designed and manufactured SLR bodies. Soon Pentax
will be
primarily an aftermarket lens manufacturer, like Tokina and Sigma,
and a
marketer of Pentax-branded P&S cameras made by others.

Excellent! They've hired a helper for Nyugen.
Seriously, this is a bit of good news. How long
will it be before someone here determines that
it's yet another sign of Pentax's imminent demise?

I have just seen this in a Spanish photo site (in
Spanish):
http://www.quesabesde.com/noticias/Pentax-objetivos-reflex,1_2278
that refers to a press release (in English):
http://www.pentax.co.jp/english/news/2006/200604.html
The Spanish site hypothetizes about Pentax
concentrating on lens, with Samsung in the body side.
