I have (blush) 7 M50/1.4s, to donate one of their lives to
science was not a big sacrifice. ;-)
You're right though, I too have a need for intact K lenses.
This experiment was to see how it would do as a short
portrait lens.
I am now able to get the desired depth of field and proper
exposure without the annoying 'zer-zip' sound of the green
button or DOF preview.
Every time I'd see my subject look over to see what that odd
sound was, I knew the shot was lost. ;-(
I turn AF with AF lenses off for the same reason, too noisey.
The LCD and cute little beeper go too, by the time they hear
or see the D, they're "In the bag". ;-)
