If you have just a small area of "blink-worthy" burnouts, it might not be so obvious on the histogram. I like having both the histogram and the blinkies on there.
Working in a normally-lit room, they are both kind of overkill. But when I am out the in the bright sun, and it's hard to gauge the exposure just by looking at the screen, the blinkies/histogram together reassure me that, although the image looks "kinda dark" on the screen, the exposure is actually fine.
