I use NiMH batteries in mine, and I have batteries that recharge in only 15
minutes. This works great for my needs. I agree that the battery indicator
is fairly useless. With the NiMH batteries, I do see the 1/2 indicator, and
I can keep shooting for a fair amount of time after that point. I can even
get a few shots with the gauge showing empty!
Since most batteries seem to last better if they are fully discharged
before recharging, I always wait till the DS says "empty" before I charge
my batteries. If I had some special mission-critical event to photograph, I
would keep a spare set of charged batteries, and always start the shoot on
fresh batteries.
